Dean Fest to Gas City for a bite to eat or a ride on a merry-go-round.

The three-day carnival runs June 2 through 4 at the Eugene "Beaner" Linn Memorial Park and includes a car show, flea market and food vendors.

Bill Rock, Gas City councilman and organizer of the Jubilee Daze, said he's trying his best have his event plugged into the crowds coming in and out of the Marion Municipal Airport, where Dean Fest will be June 3 through 5.

"We're putting fliers at the hotels with the agenda to connect in with what's happening at the airport and with Main Street Marion," Rock said. "Gas City is having a separate event, but we want to try to connect with whatever they have. Maybe on their way out to the airport, they'll stop by our park, ride a carnival ride and have a tenderloin."

Even with the competition from Dean Fest, Rock said Jubilee Daze is already getting a good reception. More than 100 cars are already registered for the Saturday car show, and Rock said he's hoping they get a similar crowd to the fall Ducktail Run car show, which normally brings about 30,000 people to the park.

"We're used to the traffic," he said. "If we can pull in the type of crowd we get normally for Ducktail Run, we'll be in great shape. ... We're pretty accustomed to having large crowds in the park. I hope we end up having that problem."

Although Gas City also has a huge draw for James Dean fans in the James Dean Gallery, most businesses in town aren't doing much to draw attention from Jubilee Daze and the Dean Fest, said Penny Garrett, executive director of the Gas City Area Chamber of Commerce.

"We don't want to do anything to compete with that. We really want those events to succeed," she said. "We'll just continue to welcome people to town as we always do."
